(5).Samuel3 GOODWIN (Richard2 Edward1), b. 1680 (A); m. 24 Dec 1701 (A), Esther, d/o John and Esther (MARTIN) JAMESON and the grand-daughter of James JAMESON. Esther (MARTIN) JAMESON was the d/o George and Susanna (NORTH) MARTIN, the Susanna of Whittier's poem, "The Witches' Daughter", who was hanged as a witch in Salem 19 Jul 1629 ('Salem Witchcraft, Upham. Vol. 2 pps. 145-149; Hoyt, Old Fams. Vol. 2; p. 752; Cotton Mather's "Wonders"; Burr, pps. 229-236). Esther and Samuel were born and lived in Amesbury all their lives. Samuel was one of the prominent shipbuilders of the area. Records of land transfers involving Samuel and Esther are scattered throughout the early books of deeds (Essex Deeds 15:289; 27:76; 47:216; 50:222; 54:71, 67:158; 77:59 and 88:154). Samuel made his will 24 Feb 1752; it was proved at Ipswich 22 Mar 1756 (Essex Prob. Recds. 333:418). Samuel and Esther had, seven children (A; IFJ Ledger, p. 325).

15. ii. Samuel, b. 31 Jul 1704 (A); m. 08 Jul 1725 (A), Mary Worthen of (A). They had twelve children, all born in what is now Newton, N.H.
16. iii. Elizabeth, b. 12 Oct 1706 (A); ;a. 13 July 1727 (A), Philip BLAISDELL of Amesbury; three children born in Amesbury (A).

18. v. David, b. 08 Jun 1711 (A); m. 10 Mar 1736/7 (A), Elinor CHALLIS of Amesbury. They had nine children.
19. vi. Daniel, b. 18 Mar 1714 (A); m. 05 Jan 1735/6 (A), Hannah COLBY of Amesbury. They had six children.
20. vii. Moses, b. 17 Apr 1718 (A); m. 1746 (A), Judith ELLIOT of Amesbury. They had ten children.

(6).Richard3 GOODWIN (Richard2, Edward1), b. 1684 (A); m. 06 Jan 1701/2(A), Esther, d/o Samuel and Jane (MARTIN) HADLEY of Amesbury, West Parish (now Merrimac) (Hoyt, Old Fams. p. 178 & 752). Richard and his son Nathan were in Amesbury Peak, fourteen miles from South Hampton, eight miles from Kingston, and lived near each other in 1743 (New Hampshire Town Papers, Vol. 9, 1638-1784; p. 609; Noyes, H. E., Mem. Hist. Hmpst., Vol. 2, p.337). Esther and their seven children were all alive when Richard wrote his will 26 May 1753. It was proved 27 June 1753 (Essex Probate Recds. 3:19; 125:7; New Hampshire State Papers).
