Samuel4, GOODWIN (Samuel3, Richard2, Edward1), b. 31 Jul 1704 (A); m. 08 Jul 1725 (A) Mary WORTHEN, b. 02 Nov 1705 (A), d/o Ezekiel and Abigail (CARTER) WORTHEN, of Amesbury (Hoyt, Old Fams., Vol. 1, p. 372 & Vol. 2, p. 752). Samuel and Mary had twelve children, all born in what later became Newton, N.H.. Their first five children may have perished in a distemper which swept through the region in 1735 (Coffin p.204).

(19). Daniel4, GOODWIN (Samuel,3 Richard2, Edward1), b. 18 Mar 1714 (A); m. 05 Jan 1735/6 (A), Hannah, d/o Theopolis and Elizabeth (HARVEY) COLBY, b. 03 May 1717 (A; Hoyt, Old Fams., p. 655). Daniel and Hannah had nine children, all born in Newton, N.H., originally a part of Amesbury, MA. The first son, Jonathan, appears to have died young, and is found only in the Amesbury records; the second son, Timothy, is found in both the Amesbury and the Newton records but with different birth dates; and the birth record for the third son, Richard, is found only in the John French Johnson Ledger, p. 352.

(20). Moses4 GOODWIN (Samuel2, Richard2, Edward1), b. 17 Apr 1718 (A), s/o Samuel and Esther (JAMESON) GOODWIN; m. 1746 (A), Judith, b. 31 May 1728, d/o Thomas and Judith (WORTHEN) ELLIOT of Amesbury. In the Amesbury First Church Records, under the date of 06 Nov 1747, there is the following entry: "Moses GOODWIN owned the Covenant & was Baptized in his own house & of a week day, He being dangerously sick & very desirous of Covenanting & Baptism, Several Brethren of the Chh & others being present & Consenting unto." But Moses recovered and he and his wife, Judith, had ten children. Moses and his sons Moses Jr., Thomas and Ephraim all built sailing ships and maintained yards along the Merrimac River. Moses died at Amesbury 14 Sep 1809, age 91 years and 5 months.

There are five children listed in the Haverhill, MA Vital Rcds. to 1850, under births; p. 143. The date given, 14 Nov 1742, is a baptism date from the records of the North Parish Church, later the Congregational Church of Plaistow and North Haverhill.

Susanna, bp. 14 Nov 1742 (Hv) -Prob. b. about 1734 -"Samuel, son to Samuel COLBY and Susanna GOODWIN, 'as she saith’, March 4, 1754 (A)" could be the Samuel associated with John, Jonathan and Simeon in the Rev. War, at Haverhill, N.H. and at Newbury, VT. He has usually been listed as a sibling, but there is no evidence that he was.
91. iii. John, bp 14 Nov 1742 (Hv); Prob. b. about 1736; m. 24 Oct 1759 (Hmst), Abigail WELLS (Noyes, H. E., 1985; Recds. of Hampstead, N. H., p.51). John was a Rev. Sol. and a grantee of Newbury, VT (Wells, F.P., 1902; History of Newbury Vermont, p. 557). He died 05 Jan 1808 (Nby).
92. iv. Simeon, bp 14 Nov 1742 (Hv); Prob. b. about 1738; m. about 1758/9, Susanna HEATH of Hampstead, N.H.. He was a Rev. War Sol. He lived at various times Haverhill, N. H., Newbury, VT, and Marietta, Ohio where he died 17 Aug 1823 (Wells, F. P., Hist. of Newbury, VT).
93. v. Jonathan, bp. 14 Nov 1742 (Hv); Born in 1740; m. ____, Elizabeth BURROUGHS. He was a Rev. War Sol. and a grantee of Newbury, VT (Wells, 1902 and Doc. Hist. of New York, Vol. IV, p. 209).

(25). Hannah4, GOODWIN (Richard3, Richard2, Edward1), b. 21 July 1712 (A); m. (1) 07 Apr 1731 (A), Nathaniel MERRILL of that town and had children. (Richard HART, a descendent of Hannah MERRILL, d/o Nathaniel and Hannah (GOODWIN) MERRILL, lists Benjamin, William, Dorothy and Judith, but with question). She was named Hannah Copps in her father's will, in 1753.

(26). Nathan4, GOODWIN (Richard3, Richard2, Edward1), b. 14 Oct 1714 (A); m.(l), 13 Jan 1736 (A), Rhoda COLBY, b. 06 Apr 1719 (A), d/o Timothy and Hannah (HEATH) COLBY (Hoyt, Old Fams., p.655). He m. (2), 29 Apr 1766 (A), Mary SMITH, d/o Samuel and Mary (GOVE) SMITH of Hampton, N.H.. Nathan was received into the Amesbury Second Church (now Merrimac) 16 June 1734. He and Rhoda were married there in Jan 1736/7, and were dismissed 31 May 1752 so as to be gathered into the Hampstead, N.H. church (Hoyt, Old Fams., pps. 546 and 548). Nathan lived near his father, at Amesbury Peak, fourteen miles from South Hampton, and eight miles from Kingston in 1743 (Noyes, H., 1903; A Mem. Hist. Of Hampstead, N.H.). Rhoda d. (Hmst) 29 Nov 1765; Nathan and Rhoda had seven children; he and Mary had one.
