38. Daniel Goodwin5, born January 1769; died May 16, 1856. He was the son of John Goodwin4 and Lydia Clough. He married Eleanor LITTLEFIELD. She died October 03, 1845, buried Wells, Maine.

Jabez NEWTON

39. Jabez Newton5 (Ezekiel4, Moses3, Moses2, Richard1), was the eldest son of Ezekiel and Hephzibah (Newton) Newton. He was born at Southboro Jan 9. 1739 or 40, and died there Oct. 16, 1799.
He married *Rhoda WARD on Dec 21, 1760, the daughter of Absolom and Mary (Wilkinson) Ward. She was born July 20, 1742, and died "Widow Rhoda Newton" Nov. 4, 1827.

William WINCHESTER

40. William Winchester5 (John4 John3 John2 John1), was born April 23, 1733, and died in Southboro July 19, 1807. He appears to have lived in Reading until early manhood, and was afterward a resident of Southboro, where he pursued the occupation of miller. He was a charter member or proprietor in Pomfret, Vt. He inherited the military instincts of his grandfather, the fighting Capt. John Winchester. During the French and Indian War, he enlisted in a company of foot soldiers and afterward in a troop of horse soldiers, but records of his military service have not been found as yet. In the American Revolution he was in continuous service from the start of hostilities until near the close of the war. (Heitman's Hist. Reg., p. 441; U. S. Pension Office Records.)
He married about 1755, Hannah (Parker) BANCROFT, widow of Jacob Bancroft of Reading and daughter of Ebenezer and Harriet (Green) Parker. Two children were attributed to her union with Jacob Bancroft. William Winchester and she had eight children. In her declining days she went to live with her son, William, in Everett, Mass., and lived to the age of 95, the last 20 years of her life being passed in blindness,

  vi. John Winchester, b. July 6, 1769, married, July 24, 1791, Elizabeth HAMMOND of Marblehead, Mass.; settled in Newburyport and afterwards in Gloucester, Mass. He was a Major in the state militia in 1812. He died in Montreal, Canada, April 30, 1821. His widow Elizabeth died in Gloucester, Dec. 5,1834. John Parker Winchester, born May 9, 1799, died 1883, was their fourth child.

John RAINGER

47. John Rainger5 fought in the French and Indian war and the Revolution. He enlisted in the Minute Men on Nov. 14, 1774 in Brookfield, Mass., under Joseph Gilbert, Capt.; William Ayers, lst Lt.; Peter Harwood 2nd Lt., and A. Abner Now, Ensign. He was commissioned 2nd. Lt., 9th Co. in the 4th Worcester regiment of Militia under Colonel James Converse, May 31, 1776.

He married Sarah HINCKLEY, Mar. 1761, who died Dec. 26, 1794. He died Mar. 9, 1795.
